As a member of the System Development and Support team, you will be given the oppportunity to build your knowledge and gain experience of a software developer, being assigned projects and assisting with business changes as well as building IT applications or supporting the applications in the live domain.
Although there will be a degree of experience required in programming, the main quality required is proven enthusiam for a career in software engineering.This will be a junior role which will have training and mentoring provided.
Main purpose of role:
Design small, large and/or complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
Support existing applications, including error tracing and fixing. You will be part of the team responsible for providing 24*7 support for key UKHO systems on an on-call rota basis.
Plan, design and conduct tests of programs; correct errors and re-test to achieve an error-free result. Construct, interpret and execute test plans to verify correct operation of completed systems.
Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues in any aspect of program design, creation, testing and documentation.
Take part in evaluations and reviews of programming methods, tools and standards.
Tasks, expectations/deliverable
You will be working within a small applications group, receiving mentoring and supervision throughout your time in the role and greater responsibilities will be given as you develop.
