The Illini Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a talented professional to serve as a Web Programmer. Founded in 1867, the Illinois campus is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions. It is one of the top comprehensive research public universities in the nation. The successful candidate will be working on a campus with academically talented and diverse student population, including 19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students from a total enrollment over 42,000 students. As the community center of the University, the Illini Union draws together all members of the University with approximately 16,000 visits of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests on a daily basis.

Position Functions and Major Responsibilities:

The Incumbent is responsible for designing, building, integrating and maintaining Web-based portal
tools, Web sites, and data structures for various departments of the Illini Union, Student Affairs and other clients approved by the Illini Union Marketing Director and Associate Director of the Illini Union. The Web Programmer will independently oversee design, program, test, and document, deploy, and maintain websites/applications across Illini Union and other approved University departments. Research and keep abreast of trends in the computer industry in regards to on-line marketing tools (hardware and software) and continuously explore how the Illini Union might benefit from them.


Job Requirements


Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Information Systems Management or related field, Master's degree preferred. Working knowledge of SQL programming language, ASP.NET, VB.NET / C#.NET, JavaScript, AJAX, and other similar languages. Be able to use online analytic tools (i.e. Google analytics, etc.) in decision-making process and advise others on how the analytics results can help drive marketing campaigns. Working knowledge of current versions of XHTML, CSS, and XML. Knowledge of object-oriented programming and design patterns. Working knowledge of various software including Visual Studio, SQL Server, Dreamweaver, and Flash. Experience with database systems and data-driven Web sites, web programming and HTML, including JavaScript and server-side interactions. Experience with image design tools such as Photoshop, Fireworks, and Illustrator. Experience designing websites that adhere to current design and accessibility standards including W3C and Section 508. Experience developing secure applications utilizing technologies such as SSL and data encryption. Understanding of basic marketing concepts. Video production and photography experience a plus. Strong project management skills and excellent communication skills. Three years of previous experience in a business or university environment. Ability to understand marketing concepts and apply to web projects. Ability to make and follow up on decisions with little direct supervision. Ability to work effectively under the pressure of a variety of deadlines and obligations.

Appointment Status: This is a 12-month, full-time academic professional position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
