Elgin Community College (ECC) is a comprehensive, fully accredited community college located in Elgin, Illinois, one of its most rapidly growing cities. Our district encompasses 360 square miles, serving 400,000 people, 11,000 businesses with four public school districts and 15 high schools. ECC was selected as one of five Illinois community colleges to participate in the national Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative. is a long-term national initiative that collaborates with community colleges to help more students earn degrees, complete certificates, or transfer to four-year institutions to continue their studies. The park-like setting of our 145 acre Main Campus offers instruction spanning nine major buildings with beautiful views. ECC also offers classes throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago with more than 100 off-campus locations.

Conceptualize and organize team effort in designing interface solutions and architecture for a variety of web-based mediums as well as oversee implementation of web design parameters, style guides, visual and code standards. Responsibilities include developing, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, coordinating the deployment of high volume internet web sites/web pages based on all college department and program requirements, and for establishing markup/coding and production standards.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Complete prioritized customer requests in a timely manner. Edit/update/maintain creative content for institutional web sites, including but not limited to, web pages, content updates, editing source code, multimedia galleries/content, online forms and PDFs. Proactively make sure content is up-to-date and consistent throughout and recommend site improvements and enhancements. Execute activities toward the design and the use of new content, design templates and create original supplementing graphics and web layouts in collaboration with web designer.

2. In collaboration with director of web services, act as lead technical/interpretive designer for all prioritized web marketing applications and web related projects. Provide expert guidance on user interface, navigation, brand strategy, visual design elements and accessibility. Meet with customers, as needed, to coordinate, clarify, review and finalize. Research advanced leading-edge technologies to enhance skills and technical knowledge, such as interactive design user experience, marketing techniques and consumer demand, and apply them to ECC's objectives. Provide results to Director of Web Services, Web team members and IT.

3. Working with Marketing staff and Director of Web Services, translate, develop and lead implementation of web design parameters, style guides and visual standards. Provide expert guidance on user interface, navigation, brand strategy, and visual design elements. Research and make recommendations and assessments about what is appropriate for the current web design set up and communicate those back to stakeholders and the team. Research, develop and implement current web design standards that ensure quality, navigation consistency and maintain the integrity of Elgin.Edu and Enet and all pages within these domains. Provide design/HTML coding standards training, guidance, assistance and knowledge transfer among web team members.

4. Actively work with and collaborate with IT and external vendors.

5. Research and gather requirements and act as web project team coordinator to assist with the design, development and implementation of web pages for projects ranging from major site redesigns to daily enhancements.. Work with director of web services and internal stakeholders to clarify needs, refine project goals, analyze end user goals, and establish target audience and measurement criteria.

6. Develop, test and review prototype designs, page mockups, and perform usability and accessibility analyses for various college web pages and applications. Perform unit testing at the page level. Set HTML/CSS/JavaScript/CMS code/markup/scripting standards. Make full use of available Content Management software packages that support user maintenance of web pages. Respond and fix production errors; test and improve site UI. Perform unit testing at page level.

7. Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot problems internally and externally; work with the appropriate individuals to resolve problems.

8. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
